Tonight I read the book "Five Little Ducks" based on a song performed by
the children's singer Raffi. I hadn't read the book to Paige in a few
months. It basically goes "Five little ducks went out one day. Over
the hills and far away. Momma duck said QUack Quack Quack Quack! But
only four little ducks came back." The book progresses until none of
the 5 little ducks come back. At that point Paige's brow furrowed and
she burst into tears questioning "Where did the ducks go?" "The momma
is so worried!" "I am so worried about the ducks!" Even after I showed
her the page where all the ducks return each bringing along a new
duckling family and everyone is happy, she continued to wail turning
back to the "None of the 5 little ducks came back" page saying how
worried she was. It took 10 minutes of convincing to calm her down, and
then 5 minutes after I left the room, she began crying again!
