how observant

Today we went to the library for storytime. After storytime Chloe
proceeded to choose out a DVD for us to check out. She picked up a
Thomas the Train DVD and decided that was the one to have. As we were
proceeding to checkout, she said, "Oh mom, this isn't Thomas." I told
her that it was and she continued to hold her ground that it wasn't
Thomas. This went back and forth until finally she said, "Mommy, this
isn't Thomas because Thomas has a number one, and this on has a number
6." I looked closer and discovered that she was right. She has never
seen a Thomas show and has only seen one Thomas book--she still knew her
stuff.

Earlier today she was watching the DVD Muppet Treasure Island (we really
don't watch that much TV, it was just a DVD day) and she turned to me
and said "Mommy, you know that frog (Kermit), he sounds just like Ernie
(from Sesame Street)" Of course she was right, the same guy does both
voices.

graduation

After watching her Aunt Ingrid's graduation ceremony this past weekend,
Chloe decided to act out the ceremony at home. She had to put on her
"fancy" dress and then proceeded to announce each person's name and
shake pretend hands. The names were quite interesting. For example:
Elloisha Mashinka, Plesheda Karioaka, Menishka Bullisheda. She made me
respond whether it was a girl name or a boy name (apparently I was right
only about 60% of the time). Her sense of pacing as she announced the
names matched the ceremony's that we had attended a few days earlier.

the animal world

Last weekend we were in Flagstaff for Ingrid's graduation. Chloe was
happily engaging in imaginary play opening and closing the deck gate to
"let all the sheep in." A little while later she decided to let "lions"
in so she could feed them. When asked what lions eat, she replied,
"Corn." I also later found out that lions also drink milk.

While preparing to go to the zoo today, I asked Chloe what animals she
would see at the zoo. She quickly responded, "Chipmunks."

where did she hear that?

Chloe has surprised me with a few new phrases that I can't figure out
where she heard them. Yesterday at the book store, exasperated from
telling her for the umpteenth time to, "Put that book back where you
found it," Chloe replies, "Mom, you are freaking me out!"

When riding in the car today, she pointed to something outside the
window and said (in a very dramatic voice), "What the heck is that?"

She was asking for something today and doing a superb job of whinning.
When I said to stop whinning, she replied, "Mom, that's not my whinning
voice, I am using my concerned voice."
